client project
this is a very basic version with the restriction put on by the D and AD awards i found it made things more difficult.
but for the final hand in for uni i plan to re render it in HD, sort out the shadows as they are pixelated and possibly change the camera angles as well as add more detail and realistic lighting.
and i know the music is cheesy :)

Client Project
as i have been doing the D and AD awards i didn't want to post my progress on here for others to see. but as the deadline is tomorrow i can show you what i have been doing.
at the start of the project i started building a hotel room and assets based on references of what furniture are expected in the future.
after awhile i found myself thing that most hotels seem to have the same layout. so i wanted to try and think of a new way to layout the hotel room making it more initiative. so rather than have a cut off room for the bathroom i put a cubicle either side of the door for a shower and toilet and the bed against the window giving me more space to work with.

i textured the room with neutral colours as it is a sleeping environment.
for the lighting i wanted it to be bright during the day but at night very relaxing with mood lighting.

i then decided to add a wall to separate the bed from the rest of the room as there is a projector in there for a cinematic feel. also i put the wardrobe that was next to the shower within the wall accessed by a sliding door.

plan for artefacts
so for my artefact i am going to use elements such as lighting, camera angle and colour filters to try and convey a particular atmosphere/ mood. so over christmas i am going to design an envrionment, rather than choosing a random environment i want to combine it with something i've always wanted to design.
i've always loved the architecture of holy building like temples, churches and mosques so i have been looking at building like that and after ALOT of research i think i am going to try and model the Buckfast abbey as i love the design of the building. this inst set in stone as i am not sure whether to do an interior instead.
the plan is by using different element i should be able to change the impact of the scene. such as a posstive effect or a negtitive effect.

research project
after last years project i had trouble creating am atmosphere with in a 3d environment. so i want to research the different techniques used to create an atmosphere such as lighting and textures. as i what to become a 3d environment artist learning these techniques will improve my designs.
my question will be something like "Do 3d environments influence emotion?

client project
I have chosen to focus on the cancer research aspect of the alumni.
it will start with a scientist getting am idea and starts mixing chemicals reaching for test tubes.it well then cut to newspapers falling saying cure for cancer found millions saved thanks to ntu cancer research. theres and award ceremony and zooms into the scientist eye when it zooms out were back at the beginning the scientist gets an idea but when he reaches for the chemical there not there and he looks disappointed then newspapers fall saying still no cure found thousands die every year. and will end with it saying your donation could make the difference.
heres the scientist i"ve made still need to rig him.

500 word rational
At the beginning of this project we were given a brief to create a 3min animation interpreting 1 of 3 scripts. I chose the Matrix Dojo scene as I thought it would be more fun and dramatic.
At the start of the project everything was going to schedule and after recently playing Batman Arkham Asylum I wanted to give my project a comic book style. I had may different ideas in terms of story such as a loser super hero trying to stop a thug and a father and son fighting. But eventually settled on a story of personifying good and evil and having them fight each other.
After I had my story sorted I started on my characters but it wasn’t going well so I took a break and started on my environment. Sticking with the comic theme I wanted it to be set in a dark New York alleyway. I made the alley look like it was the back of a restaurant because I work at a restaurant I was able to take photos at work and use them in my project such as boxes and fans. I became obsessed with my environment and completely neglected my characters. After a while there was nothing more that could be done to my environment and turned back to my characters.
After about 2 thirds of the way into the project my characters weren’t looking great or moving great ether the joints when moving seemed to buckle and nothing I did made it better so I decided to remake my characters. I was surprised on how quick I managed to get them done the last models took weeks to make, bone and skin. Whereas the new model took about 2 and a half days and was 100% better I also found it a lot easier having previously doing it. I also did research into how I could make the envelopes work better and found a way of editing them by vertex it was more time consuming but I had more control and a better outcome.
Other than some timing issues I feel the project was a success. I believe the strongest part of my project was the environment as it was exactly as I imaged it was going to look and is realistic. The weakest part of my project id the animation as its something I find more of a core then something I enjoy its not something am passionate about but I do want to improve my skills and will work on the animation side for future projects. Overall I enjoyed this project very much and shows a improvement in my skills .
This project has also given me a clearer view as to what I want to do as a career. I always wanted to do something in games but was torn between different aspects of the industry but after finishing this project I realized how much I enjoy the environment aspect. I found it extremely rewarding creating the sets and found creating characters relatively easy but a core at times.
